The depicted bronze plaque dedicated to Ondrej Baumgartner (in German: Andreas von Baumgartner), the notable physicist and native of Frymburk, is located on house N° 8 - his bithplace - at town's central square. This new plaque in Czech language is placed only couple meters from old stone tablet dedicated to the same man, but with German inscription.
Ondrej Baumgartner (1793 - 1865) was important Austrian physicist, professor of mathematic a physics on University of Olomouc (CZ) and University of Vienna (A), lately minister of trade and industry, President of Academy of Sciences, earl and holder of many Imperial honours. The plaque was erected in 1996 by Czech Telecom and town Frymburk in 150 anniversary of opening of the first electric telegraph line between Vienna and Brno (Moravia, CZ), the great technical work of that time, which was conducted by Prof. Baumgartner.
