This 29-foot cross was originally a Korean War Memorial dedicated on April 29, 1954. But now it honors veterans of all US Wars. There are a series of concentric walls surrounding the base of the cross. The walls have engraved plaques telling the stories of individual veterans.
This cross has been the subject of much litigation since it once stood on public land...and it was argued that the cross was an improper govrnement-sponsored religious symbol. The Courts had ordered it to be removed several times. The current status is that the small piece of land on which the cross sits, is now privately owned...and the rest of the surrounding land is a City Park.
Type of Memorial: Multi-War Memorial
Wars mentioned (Multi-war only): The poster of this waymark noticed memorials to veterans of the Revolutionary War, the Vietnam War, World War II and even Confederate Vivil War officers....but, presumably there are plaques also for veterans of WWI, Iraq and Afghanistan as well.
