Tugboat "Bayfield" dedicated to Davis Helberg. Located in Canal Park, Duluth MN. Canal Park is the entryway and port to Duluth. Ships enter and leave the port of Duluth using the aerial lift bridge. Many visitors come to the area to watch the ships come and go. Tug is located just outside the doors to the Lake Superior Marine Museum.
Dedicated to Davis Helberg.
In recognition of his non-tiring commitment to the maritime community as Duluth Seaway Port Authority executive director for 24 years, 1979-2003.
A native and life-long resident of northern Minnesota, Davis began his career as a 17-year old Great Lakes deckhand in 1958, which stimulated his love of and interest in the maritime commerce of the Duluth-Superior Harbor. Coupled with his deep and abiding enthusisam for our Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway and his global perspective, he helped build Duluth-Superior into a world-class port. He received many national and regional awards, but he cared most about the people who worked on the ships and the docks of the Duluth-Superior waterfront.
LIKE THIS TUG DAVIS PULLED MORE THAN HIS WEIGHT.
