This is one of many granite posts used to mark the "corner" points on the boundary lines between towns in Massachusetts, in this case, the City of Beverly and the Town of Manchester. It is a stone slab, about two feet wide, four feet tall, and five inches thick. It is leaning at about a 30 degree angle, with the letter "M" (for Manchester) inscribed on the side facing "up", and the letter "B" (for Beverly) on the side facing "down".
To reach the marker, take exit 17 (Grapevine Road) off route 128 towards Beverly Farms. After about 0.5 mile, turn left (north) onto Preston Place. Drive about 0.8 mile, and park in front of the gate, just before a right turn to a new development at the end of the road. Cross a small stream, go around the gate, and turn right following the woods road. Then follow your GPS about 0.1 mile to the marker.
The next adjacent marker heading southeast is
Beverly-Manchester 1A, 1.0 mile.
The next adjacent marker heading northwest is
Beverly-Manchester-Wenham, 0.3 mile.
