UPDATE; March 2017. Purchased by the university, this building has been demolished to make way for a parking lot. Very sad.
The original owner of this unique building was Dr. A. M. Ruhl who came to Edmond from Logan County in 1895. He was one of the first physicians and surgeons in this community. Construction was begun on this two-story home in 1910.
Architecturally, the building became more interesting in 1928 when Dr. Ruhl decided to enlarge his home. He proceeded to have it "jacked up" twleve feet to have a new first floor and basement added. When they put the house back down on the new construction, the end result was a magnificent three-story stucco home with 80 windows and a grand wrap-around front porch. Dr. Ruhl died in 1936, followed by his wife in the 1970's.
In 1989, this home was in very poor condition, inside and out. Purchased by Gary and Martha Hall, it was restored to the beautiful home and inn you see today, and the Arcadian Inn Bed & Breakfast was opened in 1990.
It currently has 8 exquisite suites, complete with many amenities. Visit their website to check availability and make online reservations, and take a virtual tour.
The Inn has won many awards, including #1 Oklahoma B & B for 10 years in a row, being in the Top 5 for the past 15 yrs.
