The building shows many "Art Nouveau"-elements and was already in 1908 the biggest department store of Thuringia. During the 2nd World War the object was partially destroyed and rebuilt after the war. In 1952 the building was converted into a "Centrum"-warehouse. At rebuilding work in 1967 the internal patio was removed. At GDR times the "Centrum" was a department store center of attraction for about 9 million customers per anno who were served by nearly 900 employees. After the turn in 1990 "Hertie" took over the department store in 1991.

In 2000 the object was redeveloped basically which renovates "Art Nouveau"-facade and the building received a bright and modern cultivation. On the 27th September, 2000 the "Anger 1" was opened under his today's name and offers since as a store gallery to about 50 specialist shops for 11,000 m² on five floors and in the basement place. In the cultivation a department store of "Karstadt" department store with 12,000 m² exists. On an average 30,000 visitors are counted per day, this proves about 11 million visitors in the year. Nowadays in the "Anger 1" and his shops 680 persons find work, under it about 60 trainees.

In the midst of city center of Erfurt, on the so-called meadow lies the shopping gallery MEADOW 1 Erfurt. On about 23,000 square meters a unique combination of shopping pleasure, an unusual architecture and spectacular meeting place and experience actions expects you.
