The church sits atop Bunker Hill (near Breed's Hill, where the Battle of Bunker Hill took place - slightly confusing, yes). The plaque reads:

"Standing on the crown of Bunker Hill, where the
British built a fortification in 1775 after the Battle
of Bunker Hill, the Church of St. Francis de Sales
was built for the second Catholic parish in
Charlestown. The parish was founded in 1859;
the church was consecrated in 1862. The ceme-
tery was established in the early 1830s, and
occupies the only plot of land in Charlestown
whose topography has not been changed.

Did you know? The interior of the Church is
patterned after the Cathedral in Limerick, Ire-
land."

Visit Instructions:
When logging a Massachusetts Historic Marker, we ask that you not only describe your visit, but to upload a picture from it. The picture does not have to be of the marker - one picture of the marker is enough. But a photo of you standing next to the marker or a photograph the subject of the marker - those are examples of possible photographs to upload.
