This monument is a steel lift bridge from 1935-1936, built as part of the widening and channeling of 'the Gouwe, the rivir between Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The bridges is almost identical as the bridge in "Boskoop". The lift consists of two heftorens, between which the movable floor of the bridge resulted in the opening and closing of the bridge. This movable floor is balanced by concrete ballast blocks in heftorens and with steel cables wired wheels up in the heftorens associated with this ballast blocks. Passage width is 25 meters, headroom when closed is 2.56 meters and when open 35 meters. The width between handrails is 9 meters. (Source: Municipality website Waddinxveen)
