On top of the stone is a plaque reading as follows:
"Colonel John Hickman McCasland
This plaque is dedicated to the memory of John Hickman McCasland who enlisted in Company F, 120th Medical Regiment in 1926 at Atoka, Oklahoma. He came up through the ranks to become Chief of Staff, 45th Infantry Division. Serving in World War II and the Korean War as Division Provost Marshall, Col. McCasland was a dedicated, loyal soldier, motivated by personal devotion to the 45th Infantry Division as a citizen-soldier who gave his best to keep our nation free."
