Pulling Pay Dirt is an interesting sculpture in a Gallup city park. The figure in front is very large and only two-dimensional, and he is leaning forward, having great difficulty pulling the heavy load behind him.
The figure is about 7 feet tall, and using a rope over his shoulder to pull the wagons on the track that have a heavy load. This is one of the first sculptures you encounter from the parking lot, and it's a really fun one. The very large man leaning forward and straining to pull the load on the track is something that catches your attention.
The signs for these sculptures only give the name, and they are made of metal also, with the names in a cut-out format.
I like that this sculpture is unusual in that the setting is on a railroad track. You don't see many like that!
The name of the park is difficult to determine. Google map lists it as Babe Ruth Park, I've seen it listed as City Park and also as Myanmura Park. I have never seen a city with so many streets called so many different names. It can be confusing!
Pulling Pay Dirt is located near an extremely large sculpture called We the People, a 110 foot wall of cut-out figures. There is also a locomotive on site, a fitness/walking trail, picnic facilities, and a beautiful monument to the Croatian immigrants who have settled here.
