There isn't much information available about this charcoal kiln... but, it is a venue on Batsto Village's self-guided tour and is next to the more noted area at which the Village's iron furnace was located. In 1766, an iron ore town was built here--- with ore coming from the surrounding bogs. In later years, the area became a glass-making venue. Presumably this kiln was used in conjunction with the iron furnace's functions producing ore. Charcoal was used to smelt ore.
