When Mary and Bob Zimmerman opened an industrial foundry in Loveland, CO decades ago, artists began clamoring for them to cast their bronze sculptures. At that time, there were no foundries in the art city. The Zimmermans opened the first, Art Castings of Colorado, which they later sold before moving to Paonia. There, they operate a smaller foundry, Lands End Sculpture Center.
While working at Art Castings, Mary Zimmerman tried her hand at sculpting and it stuck. “It was the first piece I ever did,” Mary Zimmerman says of the bronze that depicts sheep grazing. She used a real sheep as a model. She focuses on mythical and barnyard animals, subjects she believes will interest children.
