Description of Memorial: In what is becoming a very popular "new" memorial image, the weapon plunged into the earth between the boots and holding high the helmet of a fallen soldier. Even though this method of identifying where a fallen soldier lay on the battle field has been used since World War I, placing the helmet on the weapon, and hanging one of the dog tags under the helmet, with the other dog tab placed in the mouth of the fallen. The placing of the dog tag in the mouth has ceased being policy since the Iraq. But news stories of the boots with weapon and helmet, have recently made this popular with the civilian population.
