This font is one of the only Norman lead designs in England. The bowl rests on a stone base which is substantial and tiered. With the font is an information card:
'The Font
This font is unique, being the only hexagonal lead font in existence. The figures round the bowl depict the twelve apostles.
The bowl dates from about 1100, and the Purbeck stone base is about a century later.'
The church nave was rebuilt in 1841-2 by Professor T.L. Donaldson but the church contains 13th century and Norman details.
Approximate Age of Artefact: 1100 and 1200
