Coming from the east, as you drive south on Route 66 toward Davenport, the highway turns west and heads toward the county seat of Chandler, which is approximately the halfway mark for the Mother Road, both in Oklahoma and nationwide.
At the bend of the road, on the southside, you'll see a service station, which took care of the vehicle needs of travelers as they drove along the Highway.
The station is in excellent condition, with the gas pumps still out front on the service island, showing gas selling at 53.9 cents. The building now houses the Early Bird Cafe Diner, open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, serving good old country cooking. Tacked to the wall at the cafe entrance are old license plates, dating back to the 1920s.
