Germania Township was organized in 1880. The name is believed to be suggested by John Paul Steinbach. The name comes from the ship that his parents used to cross the Atlantic.
The location was the Maple Leaf School District 69. The school closed in 1969 and the township acquired the land and building in 1970. The present building was built in 1941 after the original school building was destroyed by fire. Recent improvements have made the building handicapped accessible.
