Location: Dillon is located in the southwestern part of the state, about 65 miles south of Butte, on Interstate Hwy 15. Dillon is surrounded by mountains located in a valley into which the Ruby, Big Hole and Beaverhead rivers drain, creating the Jefferson River.
Dillon is home of a historic courthouse, plus a row of western buildings that are maintained by the Beaverhead County Musuem. Originally a railroad town and important shipping point from Utah to the gold fields of Montana. Sheep and cattle were historically important to Dillon also, and at one time Dillon was labeled the largest wool shipping point in Montana.
In 1805 the Lewis and Clark "Corps of Discovery" Expedition traveled through this area, with their guide Sacajawea, looking for a way west.
