Very nice statue. I personally have seen numerous pieces by Frank Hayden, the artist of this piece. It, along with all the others, is very nice and this one is alos in great condition. I have also learned Mr Hayden was a native of Memphis, TN, but moved to Baton Rouge in 1961, where he was a faculty member of Southern University until his death in 1988. This statue is located on a small vehicle turn around directly in front of the main entrance to the Church.
Of the piece, the Smithsonian states
A figure of St. Isidore, wearing a long tunic, stands barefoot holding a shovel to his front with his proper right hand. He places his proper left arm to his side.
