These three merry military men stand on a plinth on the north eastern entrance to the coastal resort town of Sihanoukville, on the road from Phnom Penh (National Highway 4). They obviously carry with them some degree of historical and/or cultural significance, however, I was unable to uncover just what this was. I asked a host of locals in my short visit, but no one knew (most residents of Sihanoukville are recent arrivals, tourist jobs). There was no plaque visible, nor any other sign of why the memorial was here.
