The are only a half dozen or so vegetarian restaurants in Phnom Penh, and none of these cater to the tourist/expat market. This, in a city where there are several dozen tourist restaurants stretching along the riverfront (the Mekong River). Thus, if a vegetarian is desirous of obtaining a vegetarian meal in this busy entertainment area of bars, nightclubs, and restaurants, he or she must delve into the murky depths of meat consuming restaurants. For this reason I have decided to waymark one restaurant on the riverfront, which does both serve meat, and makes a determined effort to cater to the vegetarian market.
This is the 'Anjali' restaurant. A small restaurant, it has a dedicated vegetarian page in its menu, daily vegetarian specials, and its staff have an awareness of vegetarian food and cooking. Also, the food is very tasty. The fare on offer ranges from vegetarian versions of traditional Kymer dishes, to Indian, Thai and Vietnamese. The decor is pleasant, and books, newspapers and brochures are available to read. Certainly worth a look, if you are in the area.
