This school building was constructed in 1921 as the Central Junior High School. It is a three-story brick buidling with a partial basement. The building is located at 326 N. Union Street on the northeast side of downtown Shawnee.
On the back side of the building is a metal sign attached to the brick indicating that this building was once an official Fallout Shelter, when this Civil Defense program was active in the 1960s.
The building is currently occupied by the Administrative offices of the Shawnee Public Schools. On the south side, there is also a small Shawnee High School Alumni Museum, which is open on the first and third Saturdays of each month, and during school reunions.
