Beacon Drive-In was used in the movie Twister, in the scene where the tornado touches down while many in town are watching a movie at the drive-in. The characters Bill and Jo rush to the drive-in to get everyone to safety before it's too late. When they emerge from the shelter after the tornado touches down, they see the incredible damage that has occurred. The movie Twister stars Helen Hunt and Pill Paxton, two rival but once close scientists working to understand the development of tornadoes.
Beacon Drive-In is located on Division St. (Highway 77), just south of Industrial Blvd. It is about 2 miles from I-35.
The drive-in has plenty of parking, for approximately 120 cars, and a very large area up front for viewers to set out chairs and blankets. The concession stand offers a large selection of treats but you are welcome to bring your own as well.
Price of admission is approximately $5/person, but occasionally there are specials like Wed. night $10 carload.
Beacon Drive-In is closed during the winter, but reopens in the spring (sometime in March).
