Marker Inscription:
"Oldest church in Nicholas Co. Founded by Backus, Walker, Johnson, Linager, Brown, Nutter, Dorsey, Simms, Gross & Hamrick families. Served by circuit rider meeting in homes until log church built, 1810. Blacks attended; services alternated from N to S after 1844 split over slavery. In 1868, Rev. Jordan and members built popular-sided church, 1st meeting house painted white in county. Remodeled, with additions after 1960."
