The armory building located at 715 (or listed as 725) W. Chickasha Ave. on the west side of downtown, is the home of the Chickasha Area YMCA. Originally opening as the Grady County YMCA in 1989, it was housed in a storefront in the downtown area. In October 2007, the YMCA became a member of the Greater Oklahoma City YMCA. It serves not only Chickasha, but Amber, Pocasset, Verden, Ninnekah, Blanchard, Middleberg, Bridgecreek and Rush Springs.
Membership rates for Adults, Families, Teens and Youth are available on their website.
The YMCA offers cardio workout equipment in a room with headphones and television. It also has a free weight room, machine strengthening equipment, a full gym, two racquetball courts, youth fitness center and a group exercise studio.
Programs offered include Youth Basketball and Track, Girls Softball, Youth Tee Ball, Flag Football and Adult Co-ed Softball. No pool is located on the premises, but summer swimming lessons are offered at the local Shannon Springs pool. Schoolyear swimming is held at the local USAO Pool.
There is a drop-in nursery available for workout participants, as well as an after-school and vacation day childcare program. A summer day camp is also available.
