Beautiful building from the 30s graces the historic district and is a contributing structure. While the building is virtually unchanged, the area to the left has been leveled and a road installed.

I stood in the street when I took my picture and pointed the lens north and clicked. Unfortunately, over the last 70 some years, mature trees with lots and lots of leaves have sprung up and obscured the frontal view. I found my picture on page 19 of Mount Holly By Heidi J. Winzinger, Mary L. Smith. The picture is not copyrighted due to its age.

The Mount Holly Township Municipal Building, located at 23 Washington Street, was built in 1932, yet the dated stones read 1930. There is a conflict in my various resources. A rear addition was added in 1975. That's where the coppers are! If you look at the 30s picture, you will see a building to the left. That building no longer exists, and now an asphalt road runs along the left side of the building. A sources mentions a back, wrought iron fence running around the front but that is no longer there either. The wooden doors in the 30s picture are long gone, replaced with the painted metal doors seen in the picture I took.

There is an interesting date frieze above the entrance, at the top of a broken pediment and a more traditional cornerstone on the right corner, both read 1930. The building is of brick and reminds me of Colonial architecture with the exception of the aforementioned pediment. Most of the boards, commissions and departments are located here. There is a dedicated entrance to the police station on the left side. The building stands at an intersection. The front left intersection is a memorial dedicated to emergency workers including police, firefighters and other squad personnel. There is also a black monument to the right side in front dedicated to three fallen police officers.

Year photo was taken: 1936
