The Cenotaph was unveiled by Governor General of Canada, Lord Byng of Vimy on November 11, 1924. The dates for World War II and Korea were added later. The Cenotaph was inspired by the Cenotaph unveiled in London in 1920. The Cenotaph is inscribed:
