In 1738 became the first woman newspaper publisher in America when she took over publication of the
South Carolina Gazette
Upon the death of her husband, Louis Timothy, she continued to
publish the paper until 1746 when her son, Peter Timothy, came of age
in succeeded her.
This plaque in her honor was erected March 14, 1981
