The Himeji Castle is one of the oldest castles in Japan. It is the largest castle in Japan. It serves as an excellent example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, containing many of the defensive and architectural features associated with Japanese castles. The structures of Himeji Castle are stone and wood. The curved walls are sometimes said to resemble giant fans. It is under renovation as of our visit 3-2011 but is still an AWESOME castle. This is a wonderful building to visit.
