A sculpture made of wood and painted as the sign for the old Victoria Inn. It was sculpted in 1838 for the public house that used to be on this site. It was partially restored in 1998 to its former glory. A Aberystwyth Civic Society marker shows the date it was made and the year in which the Victoria Inn was on this site.
The figurehead of Queen Victoria in coronation regalia. Painted white, blue and gold. Wearing crown, right arm flexed carrying orb with sceptre in left hand. Standing on a bracketed ledge.
Salvaged from the ship 'Victoria' in the breaker's yard in Aberystwyth. Probably carved in 1838, soon after Victoria's coronation but before marriage. Transferred to The Victoria Tavern in the town in 1870. Building remained a tavern until 1920 and has since housed a number of different commercial offices. In August 1999 the building housed a restaurant. In 1989 the building was repainted and the figurehead was undercoated in black.
It was restored in 1998 and during restoration it was found that it had been painted at least 20 times and at one stage, possibly on her death in 1901, in black.
