This single-story, side-gable home was built of pioneer adobe around 1860 by an English couple. Joseph Hadfield, a weaver, and his wife, Jane Walker Redfern Hadfield, immigrated to the Salt Lake Valley where their first child was born in 1854. They had moved to Farmington (then known as North Cottonwood) by the time their second child was born in 1856. After living in Farmington for many years, the family relocated to Box Elder County. In 1908, Isaac Sears purchased the property for his second wife, Lovisa Eldora Strickland Sears. Isaac Sears owned and operated a salt factory in conjunction with "Mack" MacKegg and James Mellus, who were partners in a local hotel. Their salt operation, which shipped to markets in the easdter and western United States, utilized evaporation ponds near the Great Salt Lake.
