This map shows a hiker’s location when starting out on the Kawishiwi Falls Trail in rural Winton. The total hike is relatively easy and just under a mile round trip, although the walk can be extended to include the portage trail between Garden and Fall Lakes. It is wise to wear hiking boots as the terrain has a lot of roots and rocks, and there is a warning about the steep cliffs at the waterfall observation points. This trail is for hiking only; no motors are allowed.
Kawishiwi means “river full of beavers” in the Ojibwe language. The waterfall beneath the electrical plant is a nice reward for this hike and provides many wonderful photo opportunities. The trail is just off the Fernberg Road east of Winton and a large parking lot is available.
