This one-and-one-half story Victorian Eclectic house was built in 1907 by John and Elizabeth Brown Oldham. They met while John was working in a grocery store in Sandy, married in 1895, and had six children. John owned Oldham and Powell's general merchandise store and ran a slaughterhouse. He served as sexton of the Sandy City Cemetery during the flu epidemic of 1915 and World War I. Elizabeth was a midwife and a nurse. She died in 1932. John sold the house to his daughter, Blanch Cowley, and her husband, Wilford, in 1936. They lived here until 1975.

The Oldham family house reflecte the era of specialized agriculture, small business, and community development. It is expressive of the level of craftsmanship attained locally during a shift to more substantial and elaborate homes. Victorian forms were popular in Utah during 1885-1915, and the central-block-with-projecting-bays was an important basic form of the Victorian house.
