The ford at Pammel State Park has been a major attraction in the park for a long time. It is on Pammel Park Road just above the dam, and crosses the Middle River. The area is popular for fishermen and waders, especially on a hot summer day. Pammel Park is located southwest of Winterset; it is wooded and offers varied topography with 2 miles of hiking trails, canoeing, camping, picnicking, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.
