Will Carlton Poor House, built by George Wheaton for Isaac Vandenbergh as his private home. In 1854, Vandenbergh exchanged it with the Village of Hillsdale, MI for $2000 and it was named the Poor House. Will Carlton never lived in it, but his visits there prompted him to write the poem "Over the Hill to the Poor House"
