A marker directs history seekers to Miles-Lee Park where this striking Battle of the Bulge Monument is easily found. The text reads:
“Battle of the Bulge, Dec. 1944 – Feb. 1945. This memorial is dedicated to all Boone County men and women who faithfully served their country during this famous battle of WW II. Over 76,890 American soldiers were killed or wounded.”
The polished marble marker has images representing transportation, infantry, liaison, armor, nurse, artillery engraved in the middle. A map of the area where the battle took place is etched at the top.
The neighborhood park also has a picnic shelter, playground and a small ball field. It is located on the corner of 5th and Franklin Streets.
