This memorial statue is to Yuri Gagarin the first man space. It as been presented by the Russian Federal Space Agency to the British Council to mark the 50th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin visiting Britain on 14th July 1961.

The first space flight was made on 12th April 1961 and asted for 108 minutes in his Vostok 1 space craft.

The statue is cast from aluminium and zinc and was made in 1984.
