This historical marker is located on U. S. 220 at the Blackwater Wayside in Franklin County, Virginia and details the history of Ferrum College. The Marker is nowhere close to Ferrum College, which is located on Route 40, about 10-miles west of Rocky Mount, Virginia. The text of the marker reads:
"Ten miles southwest is Ferrum, named for iron mines nearby. Ferrum College was established by the Virginia Conference of the Methodist Church in 1913 through the influence of its woman's society of christian service. It became a junior college exclusively in 1955 after years of service in secondary education."
