Pico Ruivo is the highest point on the island Madeira. It reaches a height of 1861 metres. From Santana in the north, you can drive up a mountain road to Achada do Teixeira. There is a big parking area from where the hiking trail to the summit starts (32° 45.898'N 16° 55.256'W). Just follow the signs that lead you over a paved hiking path that gradually climbs along a mountain ridge. At the Casa do Abrigo mountain hut the path changes into a steep trail to the summit. At the top there are several viewing platforms. The hike takes about 2,7 km one way. With a clear sky you can see Pico de Arieiro and the trail through tunnels that leads you there.
