This is the oldest surviving church in New York City having been built in 1764 and it is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
The Episcopal Chapel has a cemetery...which is directly across from the former World Trade Center. The only damage from the terrorist attacks on the Church or graveyard was the felling of a tree. The Church served as a resting spot for 911 rescue workers and then became a focal point for 911 memorials. The painting of the Presidential Seal is above the pew that was set aside for George Washington.
