Built in the early 1900’s and partially funded by Andrew Carnegie, this brick building housed the Spirit Lake Public Library for many years. Dedicated in 1912 and placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 (#80001448), it no longer houses books but has a new outreach to the townspeople. In 2007 it became the privately owned “Carnegie Coffeehouse/Spenser’s Underground, a teen center, coffee house, and family ministries. The center was started by the Baskerville family who have dedicated this center in memory of their son Spenser who passed away the previous year. Besides the coffee house, there are also Bible studies, lunches for teens, music, games and homemade goodies available.
