Covey Church, the oldest church in O’Brien County, was built in 1874. Named for Rev. John Covey, the parish was originally Congregational before becoming Methodist. It is now preserved as an historic landmark with occasional services being held by the Sutherland United Methodist Church.
The front door leads through the arrow-shaped bell tower that is centered between two clear arched windows. The original pews, altar and other furnishings remain much as they did when the building was open for regular worship services.
The church is located 7 miles south of Hartley in Covey Church Park where visitors might want to linger for a basket lunch at one of the nearby picnic tables. A small cemetery across the street contains graves of veterans from the Civl and Spanish American Wars.
