[Nl] In 1711 schonk de bisschop van Gent een deel van de relikwieën van Sint-Elooi aan de Sint-Margaretakerk. Hij is de patroon van de smeden en de beschermheilige van het vee. Aangezien geen enkel dier bezweek bij de volgende veeplaag, veroorzaakte dit een grote devotie tot Sint-Elooi. In 1715 keurde pas Clemens XI het oprichten van de Sint-Elooiconfrerie goed. In hetzelfde jaar werd de Sint-Elooikapel gebouwd over het waterputje waar volgens de overlevering het beeld van de heilige gevonden werd. De jaarlijkse processie van Sint-Elooi en de zegening van de paarden vindt plaats op de eerste zondag na 29 juni. Het jaartal “1777” wijst wellicht op verbouwingswerken. De laatste restauratiewerken dateren van 2002. Beschermt als monument tesamen met de bomenrijke omgeving
[En] In 1711 the bishop of Ghent gave some of the relics of St. Eloi to the St. Margaret Church in Grembergen. He is the patron of blacksmiths and the patron saint of the cattle. Since no animal died the next cattle plague, this caused a great devotion to St. Eloi. Pope Clement XI approved in 1715 the founding of the St. Elooiconfrerie. In the same year the St. Elooikapel was built over the water pit, where according to legend, the statue of the saint was found. The annual procession of St. Eloi and the blessing of the horses takes place on the first Sunday after June 29. The year "1777" might point to renovations. The last restoration date of 2002. Protected as monument.
