This Indiana historic marker was placed sometime in the 1940s. It is at the end of a median strip of South Clark Boulevard at the intersection with West Harrison Avenue. The sign is located in a small garden planter donated by the Clarksville Garden Club.

The text is the same on each side and reads:


CLARKSVILLE

First American settlement in the Northwest Territory. 150,000 acres granted to George Rogers Clark and his troops by Virginia in 1781 for war services. Town named and tracts occupied by 1784.
