Gracelawn Cemetery is a City cemetery, established in the late 1800s. On the western side of the cemetery, in the newer sections stands the headstone of Orren Marion Mixer, Jr. This is a large, two-tone granite double marker with a curved top and flower urns on each side. The marker has many items engraved on it, including the head of a longhorn steer, a horse, a horse's head, and Indian alphabet characters. One of the cross bars of the "X" in his name is a long Indian spear. Also engraved are the words "Circle M Ranch."
Orren Mixer was born in Oklahoma City and attended Kansas City Art Institute from 1938-1940. He worked as a graphic artist in several states. He was known for painting Western scenes, particularly livestock and horses. He had a home and studio near Arcadia/Edmond. The western engravings on his headstone reflect the subjects of many of his paintings.
