John Otto had several dogs throughout his life. To create the roads into what became the Colorado National Monument, one of his dogs had a tragic habit of barking at dynamite fuses, usually backing off before detonation occurred. Otto's next dog was kept away from the sparking fuses. (from (visit link) )
