Marker Name: Michael H. Bauer (1875 - 1952)
Marker Text: Born in Germany, “Mike” Bauer came to the United States with his parents at the age of nine and moved to Corvallis in 1904. He first visited the central coast on a hunting trip to the area south of Yachats and by 1921 had built a cabin at the mouth of Tenmile Creek. In the years that followed Bauer became a strong supporter of local improvements and was instrumental in establishing the Alsea Highway as a major route to the coast.
