This sculpture is located near one of the entrances to the Tuileries Garden in Paris...and near another sculpture featuring Pegasus.

This sculpture is entitled La Renommee Montee sur Pegase" or "Truth Astride Pegasus" (Renommee literally means reputation, but in this context, "truth" is the better translation.) The 1719 marble piece is by Antoine Coysevox (1640-1720). It depicts a young female (Renommee) riding sidesaddle and blowing a trumpet. Her dress leaves her barebreasted and she also wears a laurel. The horse, Pegasus has huge wings emerging from his hindquarters and is leaping over a shield and lion pelt on a rectangular base.
Pegasus, was a winged and devine horse. Poseiden was his father. This is an unusual combination since Mercury was a Roman god (although he had his Greek persona was Hermes) and Pegasus is part of Greek mythology. Read more about Pegasus at (
