A church and a school. True remains of a settlement, left as ruins once the population in the area decreased, after the youngsters moved to the cities and the elders passed away.

I can't tell how common this was but I know at least two similar places: a church and a school. As simple as that. No other houses around, not a village not even a hamlet. Apparently these structures were built to provide education and religious support to families living in isolated houses. This place was named Monte de São Jordão and is now in ruins. The school's roof partially collapsed, but one can still enter the old class room, noticing the fireplace at a corner. The church is in worst condition but the frescoes painted on the walls are clearly visible and quite impressive.
