Ourique is a mural made of tiles placed in pavilhão Carlos Lopes in Lisbon. It´s one of four murals in the front of the building.
This panel depicts the surrending of the Moors at the Battle of Ourique, a Battle between D. Afonso Henriques, (the 1st King of Portugal) and the Moors.
The battle probably took near the town of Ourique, in Alentejo. The Moors were in a higher number than the Portuguese troops but the Portuguese won. It was a great victory. So great that Afonso Henriques claim for himself the title of King of Portugal.
The Panel was made in 1922 by the Portuguese painter Jorge Colaço (the author of the tiles at São Bento Station in Oporto).
