"B.K. Bullard moved his family to Lake Wales in 1915, and Lindsey Acuff was hired by Bernice Kennedy Bullard to erect a large two-story brick building here in March of 1919 for $70,000. The building was completed in January of 1920, and a portion was rented to M.R. "Doc" Anderson for his drug store, with a prescription department, cigar case, news rack, wall rack and $2,500 soda fountain made from Mexican onyx. Blue and white tile covered the floor. The space was later rented to the Act II Shoppe, Inc.
Other space was occupied by Paul and Shirley Sanford's barber shop, the post office, Frank and Bill Rinaldi, and M.M. Ebert's Hardware Store. The hardware store space later became the home of Morris Hardware, which Bill Morris sold to J.L. "Ted" Holman in 1964.
Mrs. M.L. Wilbur opened the town's first millinery shop upstairs in 1920."
